O/Cava Meccanica S.p.A.

In line with the Company philosophy - aiming at the respect, liveability and safety of the workplace - the technical direction of O/Cava Meccanica confirmed its confidence in Magaldi, choosing once again the Superbelt® technology.
Its “environmental programme” aims at the elimination of all existing vibrating conveyors due to the excessive noise and continuous stops caused by the breakage of stressed components.

Established in 1964, O/Cava Meccanica is specialized in the production of components for industrial vehicles. Currently, the Company boasts one of the most advanced and sophisticated nodular cast iron foundries in Europe and a modern mechanical and pre-assembly department able to provide a highly technological finished product, ready to be assembled on the vehicle and in perfect just-in-time philosophy.

The foundry found the solution to its needs in the three Magaldi Superbelt® conveyors made of≥400HB manganese steel plates, able to ensure continuity in production lines and a sound pressure level <65dB(A). The first conveyor was installed in 2007. It is 14 meters long, 1,400 mm wide and 1,000 mm high. It is located downstream the continuous shot-blasting machine. A medium-size manipulator carries out the castings, sorting them directly onto the conveyor, and transferring them into specific bins while the sprues are unloaded onto the head section.

The second conveyor became operational in summer 2014 for sprue-removal operations by hydraulic wedges and for small mechanical works that operators can directly perform on the steel conveyor belt or on the working surface close to the conveyor.

The third conveyor, installed downstream the Didion drum, was specially designed to be "armoured" and to allow the safe operation of a huge manipulator for sprue removal and casting sorting activities. The manipulator, which can also operate directly onto the belt, is equipped with a gripper capable of providing a 20-ton pressure of closure for sprue removal. In addition to the supporting structure of the conveyor, designed with large sections, the Magaldi Superbelt® conveyor is also provided with a "reinforced" mesh and increased thickness plates. The carrying idlers - divided in two halves and with a 40 mm shaft - are coated with rubber rings of 159mm and placed at a closed pitch of 175mm to cushion the manipulator shots.
