Tenaris pipe

THE CHALLENGE

Tenaris awarded the SMS Group a contract for the turn-key supply of the seamless pipe mill.
The Italian SMS branch – named SMS INNSE – was involved in the engineering and supply of the pipe handling and finishing systems.
SMS, in turn, turned to Magaldi for a dependable solution to automatically convey both chips and scraps generated during the finishing process, without using cranes or buckets.

 

THE CUSTOMER

In 2013, the Tenaris Group started the construction of a state-of-the art seamless pipe mill in Bay City, Texas.
The mill incorporates a high level of automation and cutting-edge technologies into its production of seamless pipe.

 

THE SOLUTION

Magaldi installed 5 Superbelt® conveyors to evacuate both scraps and chips from the cutting machines.
Placed in a pit, the conveyors are equipped with a specifically-designed loading chute. The pans are in Hardox 400 to resist wear and heavy impacts as the material can sometimes come in clusters.
Moreover, to allow a constant lubrication of both idlers and drums’ bearings, a centralised lubrication system is installed on the conveyors.
The fifth Superbelt® handles the material coming from a water cutting machine. Due to the presence of water, the pans as well as the mesh are made of stainless steel.
