STEEL BELT CONVEYORS FOR SEVERE CONDITIONS since 1929

ISKENDERUN ENERJI URETIM

THE CHALLENGE

When Turkey opened its energy market to independent power producers (IPP’s), one of the biggest coal fired power plants built under the scheme of a 20-year power purchase agreement with EUAS, the government-owned Turkish utility company, was the 2x605MW Iskenderun project, activated by STEAG, the German power utility well known for its investments abroad. Located in an area of peculiar natural beauty, the plan was subject to the most stringent environmental regulations.
When the time came to decide what kind of dry bottom ash system should be applied, the natural choice was the MAC® (Magaldi Ash Cooler) system: Siemens, leader of a consortium including Babcock Borsig Power and responsible for the construction of the power plant, decided to award Magaldi Power a contract for both units in 2001.

THE CUSTOMER

The Turkish project company Isken A.S., under the entrepreneurial leadership of STEAG, is responsible for managing operations, while Siemens, leader of a consortium including Babcock Borsig Power, was responsible for the construction of the power plant. ─░sken Sugözü Power Plant was the first coal fired power plant built and operated by the private sector in Turkey.
The ISKEN Sugözü power plant operates in compliance with international technical standards and the competitiveness of the plant is assured by efficient design and high availability. Thus, it provides reliable and efficient power to the grid (9 billion kWh electrical energy per year).

THE SOLUTION

This state-of-the-art installation features a MAC® extractor followed by a crushing stage, an Ecobelt® steel conveyor belt, a buffer bin and a milling station. The milling station pneumatically conveys the bottom ash to the fly ash silo, where the fly and bottom ashes are mixed together. This dry process eliminates water usage and creates a dry combustion by-product to be used for recycling in the cement industry.
For Magaldi Power this was another important step in widening international acceptance of the MAC® system, coming this time from one of the most prestigious firms of the German power world.
Today, after more than 15 years, the Magaldi systems still run mostly with their original components to the Client’s utmost satisfaction.
