BAOSTEEL - Baoshan Iron & Steel Co.

The 3x350MW coal fired units at the Baoshan power plant serve the Baosteel complex in the Southern Shanghai area. A stable and high-efficient production of electricity is a vital requirement in order to maintain  steel production. Moreover, Baosteel aimed at an ambitious “zero water discharge” environmental goal for its production complex.
The utilization of the MAC® (Magaldi Ash Cooler) system for the retrofit of all old bottom ash handling systems, based on water impounded hoppers, was the logical consequence of these targets.

Baosteel Group Corporation is one of the typical enterprises that arose from China’s reform and opened in 1978. After almost 40 years of development, Baosteel has grown into one of the most competitive iron and steel companies with the highest level of modernization in China. Baosteel, with iron and steel as its main business, manufactures premium steel products with high technologies and a high added value.
Therefore, Magaldi Power is very proud to count Baosteel among its Clients: the biggest iron and steel producer in China, the fourth-largest in the world, ranking second among the top 100 listed companies in this country. World Steel Dynamics has identified 23 companies as World Class Steel Makers based on their comprehensive competition, and Baosteel ranked at third position.
The Baoshan power plant provides electricity to the entire Baosteel complex in the southern Shanghai area.

The three units installed by Magaldi Power all feature the same configuration, with mechanical seal, hopper, bottom valves, MAC® extractor, primary crusher, Ecobelt®, hammer mills and a 1.2km pneumatic transportation line up to the silos area. The outstanding results of the first installation persuaded Baosteel to grant Magaldi the orders for the retrofitting of the remaining units well before the installation of the first unit was completed: all the related contracts were signed in Shanghai between March 2005 and January 2006. Today the Baoshan installations still proudly show the Magaldi flag, demonstrating that when the issue comes to absolute product dependability, state of the art technology and in-depth knowledge, in China too, a dry bottom ash system means the MAC® system.
