The DISTEM project is focused on technologies that aim to achieve the transition to a reliable, sustainable and competitive energy system envisaged by the Horizon 2020 Program. The project focuses on the development of a new technology for generating power from concentrated solar radiation CSP (Concentrating Solar Power).

In this regard, the Magaldi Group has already developed a challenging technology based on the use of fluidized granular solids as a storage device for thermal energy from concentrated solar radiation. Within the DISTEM project, a direct irradiation fluidized bed system has been researched and realized in order to have a significant impact in the development of plants able to produce and/or store energy in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.

The final achievement was the development of an efficient system for solar energy storage, concentration and conversion into thermal energy through solid-state storage media, which overcomes the current temperature limits of the energy transferred to the heat transfer fluid. This improvement appears achievable through a joint improvement of the individual components that build the system.
