Heat the Change
The electrification of industrial heat, driven by renewable energy and facilitated by advanced thermal storage, represents a pivotal step in the journey toward decarbonizing energy-intensive industries.
Surplus low-cost, intermittent renewable electricity is converted into medium- to high-temperature heat - up to 600°C – to support continuous industrial operations.
Magaldi Green Thermal Energy Storage (MGTES) is a long-duration thermal battery delivering clean heat.
Developed in-house by the Magaldi Group, this system uses a fluidized sand bed to store renewable energy and release it continuously (or on demand) as medium- to high-temperature thermal energy, typically in the form of steam.
Founded in 1929, the Magaldi Group is proud to present, in collaboration with Enel X, its first full-scale MGTES plant, with a capacity of 7.5 MWh-thermal.
The plant will provide continuous steam at 195°C and 11.5 bar, serving the operational needs of I.GI SpA, a key supplier to the Ferrero Group in the food sector.
Installed at I.GI’s facility in the Buccino Industrial Area, the plant is expected to reduce gas consumption by approximately 20% and cut CO₂ emissions by 500 tons per year — a significant step toward a net-zero future.
