ENEL Green Power

THE CHALLENGE

Enel Green Power S.p.A. (EGP) is a subsidiary of Enel Group dedicated to developing and managing energy generation from renewable sources worldwide, with a presence in Europe and the Americas.
In March 2016, EGP started the commissioning of the Final Emilia biomass fired power plant, a 1x15 MWe greenfield that will burn 100% local solid biomass using grate firing technology.
In May 2015, Magaldi Power SpA had awarded a contract by EGP to provide an Ecobelt® BIO to extract and cool the bottom ash in a completely dry and reliable way.

 

THE CUSTOMER

EGP is entirely dedicated to the development and management of renewable energy, in both Italy and around the world. EGP is a world leader thanks to a balanced energy mix that includes each of the principal green energy sources: photovoltaic, geothermal, wind, hydropower.

EGP owns the greenfield of Finale Emilia in Italy, a 100% biomass fired power plant. The heat input to the furnace is 50 MWth @BMCR, that can generate about 15 MWe with a gross unit efficiency > 30%. The plant burns different types of biomass such as fiber sorghum, straw, wood chips, forest and agricultural residues.

 

THE SOLUTION

Originally specified as "wet" type in the bidding stage, then EGP decided to adopt a dry bottom ash handling system, installing the Magaldi Ecobelt® BIO to take advantage of its high reliability and the dry ash cooling. Downstream the conveyor, the bottom ash is conditioned by using a small amount of water that does not exceed 10% of  ash weight.
