STEEL BELT CONVEYORS FOR SEVERE CONDITIONS since 1929

ACEA

THE CHALLENGE

ACEA is one of the leading Italian multi-utility firms, managing and developing networks and services in the business areas of water, energy and environment.
ACEA owns San Vittore del Lazio waste-to-energy plant, that is provided with 3x54 MWth combustion lines burning RDF (refuse derived fuel). The plant is designed to thermally convert about 400,000 tons per year of wastes.
In January 2016, Magaldi Power had been awarded a contract by ACEA for the wet-to-dry conversion of the bottom ash handling system on the twin combustion lines #2 & 3. The commissioning of the Ecobelt® WA conveyors is foreseen by early 2017.

THE CUSTOMER

Among the most important Italian public utilities, ACEA is an industrial group which focuses on the consolidation and creation of value from its two main activities, energy and water.
The company deals with the management of energy, environmental and water services: the production, sale and distribution of energy, the development of renewable sources, the disposal and creation of energy from waste, the public lighting and an integrated water service (aqueducts, sewerage and purification).
Moreover, ACEA is the 6th utility company in the Italian waste-to-energy market, totalizing around 770,000 tons of wastes treated on yearly basis.

THE SOLUTION

At San Vittore del Lazio waste-to-energy plant, the bottom ash handling system was originally wet on the combustion lines #2 & 3. Each line was equipped with two submerged Apron-based conveyors to handle the wet bottom ash from the discharge of the combustion grate to a temporary storage pit.
At the beginning of 2017, Magaldi Power has carried out the wet-to-dry conversion of the bottom ash handling system by installing its dry Ecobelt® WA technology.
Each combustion line is equipped with two Ecobelt® WA conveyors to extract and cool down by ambient air both the bottom ash and the siftings. Downstream the conveyors, the ash is conditioned by using a small amount of water to keep the dust down and allow a safe transportation to the metal recovery facility.

The expected main benefits from the installation of the Ecobelt® WA include:
