STEEL BELT CONVEYORS FOR SEVERE CONDITIONS since 1929

VOLKSWAGEN

THE CHALLENGE

Over the past years, the automotive industry has been a source of wealth for the Mexican economy, with carmakers setting up manufacturing facilities or new production lines.
For its iron foundry in Mexico, Volkswagen Group launched an expansion and modernization plan aimed at increasing the production capacity.
Within a project for the installation of a Pangborn shot-blasting machine, Magaldi was asked to supply a Superbelt® conveyor to replace the existing chain conveyor which was suffering maintenance problems and frequent production outages.

THE CUSTOMER

Headquartered in Germany, Volkswagen Group is a multinational automotive manufacturing company and the largest carmaker in Europe.
In Puebla, VW owns its largest stand-alone plant, employing 15.000 people, producing and assembling VW brand cars like Jetta, New Beetle and Golf. The plant is vertically integrated (from the stamping line to the final assembly).

THE SOLUTION

In 2016, Magaldi was awarded by VW Mexico with an order for the supply of a Superbelt® conveyor to load a new Pangborn shot-blasting machine recently installed.
The Magaldi Superbelt® conveyor, 14 meters long and 800 mm wide, has replaced the existing chain conveyor and has been installed downstream an existing vibro-feeder which unloads the iron castings onto the belt.
The first half of the Superbelt® conveyor is flat to allow operators, located at both sides of the conveyor, to de-gate and sort castings in a safe and ergonomic way.
Some intermediate curve sections incline the second half of the conveyor at 30° to feed the continuous Pangborn shot-blasting machine.

Magaldi recognized a three-year mechanical warranty for the supplied conveyor even if its expected working life is much longer.
