THE CHALLENGE

In 2004 the request for production of high-quality mechanical and spheroidal iron castings, coming from different foundry sectors, was the key-driver for Magaldi technology involvement in the project for the design of the new production processes at VECO foundry. In fact, the Magaldi Superbelt® was selected as the most dependable conveyor, ensuring long lifetime and easy operation and maintenance.

THE CUSTOMER

Founded in 1961, VECO is one of the most important Italian foundries. In more than 50 years, it has produced millions of castings for sanitary and domestic applications worldwide. Nowadays, it is specialized in ductile iron castings.

THE SOLUTION

In summer 2004, the first Magaldi Superbelt® conveyor was installed after the shot-blasting machine for sprue removal and casting sorting operations. The operators use the hydraulic wedges for removing the sprues and carry out some minor activities directly onto the belt.

After 10 years, VECO chose again the Magaldi Superbelt® technology for the loading of two electric arc furnaces. The conveyor is inclined up to 30°, the thickness of pans is 160 mm (8+8 mm), made of manganese steel ≥400 HB.
The Magaldi Superbelt® replaced an Apron-based conveyor that had caused several problems due to the frequent and sudden breakage of the chains. It assured the transportation of the sprues coming from the weighing hopper and fed by a front loader.

The Magaldi Superbelt® technology has proven its well-known dependability to satisfy any plant requirement, thanks to the capacity of operating in the most difficult working conditions, such as very heavy impact loads, assuring the maximum production availability.
